History Of IMC
In 2007, Industrial Molding Corporation announced its 60th year in business. Founded by Melvin Earsley, under the moniker of Precision Products in 1947, the company became known throughout the Lubbock, Texas region as a job-shop for agricultural and industrial customers in need of precision metal machining and forming services. Developing a significant level of technical expertise in metal machining and forming, the company later expanded its services to include the manufacture of castings, molds, and specialty tooling.
Precision Products became Industrial Molding Corporation in 1957 when the enterprise was expanded to include custom plastic injection molding services. As it launched the plastic injection molding portion of the business, the company leveraged its technical expertise to target technically challenging plastic molding projects. As a result, Industrial Molding Corp. became one of the earliest companies to assist OEM bearing manufacturers to convert metal retainers to quieter, lighter, and less expensive plastic bearing retainers. Operating with exposure to complex tooling concepts and highly engineered resins allowed IMC to develop a sizeable reputation as a technically driven organization. Our experience and knowledge were a key element as we pursued more diverse and technically challenging opportunities and markets.
The founder’s sons, Jim and Steve Earsley, assumed leadership of the company from 1986 to mid 1999. During this period Industrial Molding Corp. remained a privately held corporation and experienced significant growth and expansion into a broader range of precision plastic injection molding applications serving the bearing, medical, automotive, consumer, industrial, electronics, and fiber optic markets.
In July 1999, NN, Inc., an independent manufacturer and supplier of high quality, precision steel balls and rollers in the international, anti-friction bearing market, purchased IMC. The publicly held company—trading on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the trading symbol “NNBR”—provided Industrial Molding Corp. with greater national and international exposure.
Today, Industrial Molding Corp. continues to serve a variety of global markets requiring a broad range of technical and manufacturing expertise. Our experience is in serving markets with numerous challenges. We are pleased to contribute solutions to problems from the early stages of product development and continuing through the manufacturing, delivery, and logistics stages.
